Obsession

“Sexual tension is employed within the image as a challenge to social construct and a mechanism through which to activate deep and frequently suppressed inner psyches.”

Obsession

The Obsession series created by Nic Gaunt is a photographic exploration of the interplay between vulnerability and empowerment through sexualised scenarios.

The fetishised objectification of the subject question social stigmas and taboos and ultimately challenges the voyeur to question their own sexual desires.

By employing a restricted palate the artist produces bold and impactful photographic results.

The minimalist technique both serves to dramatize the experience whilst at the same time partially dehumanize the subject allowing for closer personal connectivity with the fantasy.

Sexual tension is employed within the image as a challenge to social construct and a mechanism through which to activate deep and frequently suppressed inner psyches.

The subjects often fall into the category of dominant or passive / subservient. The interplay between the two distinctions is explored throughout the series. Often Gaunt blurs these lines, granting the power of decision to the third party. By initiating that process he is ultimately directly questioning personal sexual desire, positioning and belief.
